For a third successful year, the Carlos Rosario School has served as a One Stop Enrollment Center where people from D.C.’s immigrant communities can come to learn about important health information and enroll in healthcare plans.
Through a partnership with DC Health Link and the Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, health navigators meet with community members to walk them through the often daunting process of enrolling for healthcare. During this past enrollment period, the school hosted 19 different enrollment events from November to January and served more than 450 people.
Due to the school’s long history as a trusted source for information and resources, becoming a One Stop Enrollment Center was an important part of DC Health Link’s broader strategy to reach immigrant families in the area. Kristie Canegallo, Deputy Chief of Staff for Implementation for President Obama, stopped by the school in January to show her support and to share with those in attendance about the importance of health coverage.
Over the past three years that the school has partnered with DC Health Link, we have hosted approximately 60 enrollment sessions through which information was provided to over 6,000 individuals, and over 1,000 people were enrolled in health plans at the school.
